Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary
Bentley's bespoke coachbuilding division, Mulliner, has designed a unique keycase to commemorate the brand's centennial. It is made of Dark Stained Burr Walnut and Piano Black veneer, it comes with a flying 'B' paperweight, a set keys and a brochure featuring never-before-seen 1930 8 Litre imagery.

Aesthetics
Bentley is a company who takes its aesthetics seriously. It's evident in the exact positioning of its quilting, the selection of leather from cattle by-products, the wood from sustainably managed forests and the innovative patterns on its levers. The Continental GT is Bentley's most sophisticated open-top car. The rear tonneau on the Continental GT, for example, featured the largest piece ever made of dark-stained Burr Walnut veneer that was book-matched. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.

Design

The Mulsanne was revamped and redesigned by

In celebration of its Centenary, Bentley introduced a specific specification that is known as the Centenary Specification for cars built in 2019. This includes contrast stitching and cross-stitching in Centenary Gold thread throughout the cabin. The Bentley Wings on the headrests and seats are embossed in Centenary Gold, adding to the feeling of celebration. The Centenary Specification also includes a personalized Bentley keycase, which completes the Bentley experience.

Personalisation
Bentley's bespoke division, Mulliner, allows customers to design their own car. The guests sit at a collection of images, referred to "mood stations" and choose a selection of photos ranging from picturesque vistas to sporting events - that are inspiring to them to design their own. Each time a selection is made the pattern that emerges reveals the model colors, style and color preferences for the bespoke Bentley.
The resulting configuration is then loaded onto individual R.F.I.D.-enabled key cards that are then presented to the guests in a hand-crafted key case. Keys can also be equipped with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps, which illuminate the door-opening path with the owner's name, or emblem when they arrive at the vehicle.
Bentley estimates that it takes around 500 man-hours to construct and assemble a Mulsanne. The reluctance to embrace modern technology is the key to this time-consuming task. Instead of using a machine to place the perfectly matched cross-stitched leather seats workers at the Crewe factory do it by hand. Drivers must park their vehicles manually, rather than using sensors built-in to guide them into perpendicular and parallel spots.
During the event, Bentley presented its Mulliner personalization capabilities using a special example - the Mulsanne W.O. The Mulsanne W.O. Edition pays tribute to founder William Osler Bentley. The 100 limited-edition cars include the key with a special design that shows a small portion of the 1930 8 Liter's crankshaft.
