Many Black people feel this is a patronizing practice, regardless of whether they are wearing an Native American headdress to a music festival or blackface for Halloween.
In addition to incorporating elements of minority cultures, a dominant group can also take advantage of intellectual property from the minority group. This can be done by blackfishing, for example. It is important to remember that people of color have a long history of being marginalized and denied rights. For instance, if you see a black person wearing a blackface Halloween costume, you should consider the history of black people being excluded.
