This practice, which is known as cultural appropriation, can result in feelings of disrespect among members of minority groups. Many Black people view this as a patronizing act, whether it's wearing an Native American headdress to a music festival or blackface for Halloween.
A dominant group can incorporate elements of cultures that are minority. However, they can also utilize intellectual property of the minority group. This is done via blackfishing, for instance. It is important to remember that people of color have a long history of being marginalized and denied rights. Consider, for example, the history of the marginalization of black people when you see someone wearing the blackface Halloween costume.
