There are many instances where an dominant culture is able to adopt elements of a minority's culture. This practice, referred to as cultural appropriation, may lead to disrespect from minority members. Many Black people view this as a patronizing behaviour, whether wearing the Native American headdress to a music festival or wearing blackface on Halloween.
A dominant group could also adopt elements of minority cultures. However, they could also take advantage of intellectual property belonging to the minority group. This is done via blackfishing for instance. It is important to consider that people with color have a history being marginalized and excluded. For instance, if you see a person of color wearing a costume of blackface You should think about the history of black people being excluded.
