Lego Batman 2 was released worldwide for the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS in June 2012. An OS X version of the game, published by Feral Interactive, was released in September 2012, followed by a Wii U version in May 2013. A mobile version of the game, titled Lego Batman: DC Super Heroes was released for iOS in March 2013 and for Android in March 2016. The game received generally positive reviews for most platforms, and mixed reviews for the 3DS and Vita, and sold 3.4 million copies by March 2013. A film adaptation was released on Blu-ray and DVD in May 2013 as a compilation of cutscenes from the game. The second act of the 2012 live-action film The Dark Knight Rises is inspired by "No Man's Land", which depicts Gotham City being cut off from the rest of the world and placed under criminal control due to the efforts of the League of Shadows, led by Bane and Talia al Ghul.

Meanwhile, Luthor, believing the Joker's gas could help him get elected president, breaks the Joker out of Arkham using the "Deconstructor", a kryptonite-powered weapon that can deconstruct unbreakable black objects. On Day 98, Oracle chronicles the gang war between the Street Demonz and the Lo Boyz. On Day 102, the Blue Boys managed to take over the Street Demonz' territory. A simultaneous story in JLA reveals that the Justice League keeps an eye on Gotham during this time by preventing various villains from claiming the territory for themselves. As the League prepare to rebuild the Batcave, Green Lantern shoots a beacon from his power ring into space in victory. Lego Batman series. The game's main storyline follows Batman, Robin and later Superman as they attempt to foil the Joker and Lex Luthor's plans to have the latter become president of the United States, joining forces with the Justice League along the way. Batman taunts the Joker by saying that Harley, with her plan, had come closer to killing him than he ever did.
While the now mentally stable Batman escapes the shallow grave that the Black Glove put him in, Joker points out that no one has investigated Batman's "Bat-radia". Harley then recalls her past in Arkham as an intern psychologist looking to profit off of its criminal patients by writing tell-all books, starting with her first encounter with the Joker. The Joker attacks him in a fit of rage, and Batman retaliates, ending with Joker falling down into a burning smokestack. Later, while patrolling the rooftops, Batman encounters the Joker, who reveals that he is slowly dying due to the unstable properties of the Titan formula (which he injected himself with at the end of Batman: Arkham Asylum). In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Grant Morrison explained that Batman's fate in the story is "so much better than death. People have killed characters in the past, but to me, that kind of ends the story! I like to keep the story twisting and turning. So what I am doing is a fate worse than death. Things that no one would expect to happen to these guys at all. This is the end of Bruce Wayne as Batman".
