Lego Batman 2 was released worldwide for the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS in June 2012. An OS X version of the game, published by Feral Interactive, was released in September 2012, followed by a Wii U version in May 2013. A mobile version of the game, titled Lego Batman: DC Super Heroes was released for iOS in March 2013 and for Android in March 2016. The game received generally positive reviews for most platforms, and mixed reviews for the 3DS and Vita, and sold 3.4 million copies by March 2013. A film adaptation was released on Blu-ray and DVD in May 2013 as a compilation of cutscenes from the game. The second act of the 2012 live-action film The Dark Knight Rises is inspired by "No Man's Land", which depicts Gotham City being cut off from the rest of the world and placed under criminal control due to the efforts of the League of Shadows, led by Bane and Talia al Ghul.

While the now mentally stable Batman escapes the shallow grave that the Black Glove put him in, Joker points out that no one has investigated Batman's "Bat-radia". Harley then recalls her past in Arkham as an intern psychologist looking to profit off of its criminal patients by writing tell-all books, starting with her first encounter with the Joker. The Joker attacks him in a fit of rage, and Batman retaliates, ending with Joker falling down into a burning smokestack. Later, while patrolling the rooftops, Batman encounters the Joker, who reveals that he is slowly dying due to the unstable properties of the Titan formula (which he injected himself with at the end of Batman: Arkham Asylum).
