Private ADHD Titration

There is a national shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing problems and an increased demand in the world.

Our service offers private adhd titration ADHD adjustment instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly skilled consultant psychiatrist will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your ADHD. This will include an examination of your medical history as well as an assessment using the common ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your examination After your assessment, you will be informed that medication may be beneficial for your specific situation. The discussion will take place at your follow-up appointment (which may be scheduled in person, by video link or by phone). Your doctor will go over the various options for medications available. If you decide to start taking medication, we can help you to titrate your dose to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process may take several weeks and involves gradually adjusting your child’s medication until the appropriate balance has been achieved. It is not unusual to need to titrate several times before finding the best one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is important that parents are involved in the titration and be on the lookout for their child's behavior so they can let the doctors know if the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment you will receive a private prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You must attend six-monthly appointments to monitor your medication. This includes pulse and blood pressure measurements. Annual reviews are also mandatory.

Follow-up appointments

After the evaluation is completed and you are satisfied, you can schedule follow-up appointments with your psychiatrist. The appointment usually takes place on zoom video call however in some instances it may be possible to have an audio only consultation (again at an additional cost).

We will then go over treatment options and choose the most appropriate, customized ADHD medication titration. This will include a review and discussion of your medication dose, as well as any side effects you may be experiencing. The cost of these titration consultations is PS150 for face to face sessions and PS60 for online or phone video consultations. The pharmacy will be charged for any cost of medication.

imageThe psychiatrist will ask questions about your family history as well as the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your daily life and any mental health issues you might be experiencing. ADHD can be a hereditary condition, so it's important to look into your family's background to determine if you're at chance of developing this disorder.

imageIt is important to be honest and open with your doctor during this assessment, as the information they receive will be used to determine whether your ADHD is in line with the diagnostic criteria. This is an important step because an incorrect diagnosis could result in a prescription for medication that is not appropriate.

If you've decided you would like to receive treatment for your ADHD We will schedule a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists that specialize in this field. If you'd like to start treatment right away you can start treatment at the time of diagnosis. You can also take for two weeks before considering the implications of the diagnosis and your options.

We recommend that if you are unsure of your preferences, you talk with your GP prior to booking your private appointment. Certain providers have different guidelines regarding whether or not they require the submission of a GP letter. We also advise that you check whether your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement that means that once discharged from the clinic you will be returned to them for the prescription for the medication.

Medication

For many people who seek an official diagnosis of adhd titration waiting list, medication is a crucial aspect of their journey. Getting prescriptions from an NHS psychiatrist can be difficult and lengthy. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long and GPs are often reluctant to refer patients on to specialist services.

One method to circumvent this is to request your GP to refer you through Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can select a provider that offers an assessment on your own and titration. This will help you reduce time and be more convenient, particularly if you have a busy schedule.

Once you've been referred, your clinician will assess you to determine if you require medication titration. You'll have to fill out forms that differ by provider however the most commonly used ones are self-reporting questions and medical histories that go back to childhood and adulthood. These forms will help your clinician determine if there are circumstances that indicate you shouldn't be taking ADHD medications, when they've been prescribed.

If you are titrated on medication, it will typically be a combination of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. These will be carefully trialled and monitored to determine the most effective combination for you, taking into consideration any medical conditions you may have. The process of titration can be long and could require a few extra appointments before you're able to stay on your dose.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments is contingent on the type and amount of medication you're taking. They can be monthly or quarterly. This will include your physician checking that you are on the right medication, logging any side effects you've experienced and making any necessary adjustments to ensure that you're on a dose that is safe. You are required to attend an annual review as well as a routine health examination which includes pulse, blood pressure and weight measurements.

Some patients may be content with their treatment and do not have to discuss their titration in more detail. If you need to discuss your titration plan or treatment plan in more detail it is possible that you'll be sent back to the private clinic who performed your initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration consultation will be part of their consultation fee and they will be given their medication on an individual prescription (see Consultation fees above). This could cost more than an NHS prescription as the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
