This is a fantastic feature for those who would like to listen to music on your laptop while taking a phone call simultaneously. Multipoint isn't available in the default settings however it's easy to enable in the Headphones Connect app's System tab. There's a downside to this: when you enable multipoint, you'll lose the possibility of using the top-quality Bluetooth codec LDAC.
As with the previous WH-1000XM4s the Sony WH-1000XM5's touchscreen controls let you control the playback of music and make phone calls. You can swipe forward and backwards on the touchpad in order to skip tracks, or backwards to play and pause. The right earcup houses physical buttons for volume and power.
If you have an iPhone and you want to customize the headphones by using Siri commands. You'll also have access to other features such as a personal assistant and battery meter. Sony is also offering voice prompts to guide users through the functions of the headphones, though I found that they might be too chatty for certain users.
The WH1000XM5's battery life is 30 hours when noise cancellation is turned on, which is the same as previous generations. 40 hours when it's off, is only a few hours shorter than the other models.
