Best Over the Ear Headphones

Wireless headphones let you listen to music or podcasts anywhere without having to run a wire from your audio device. They're ideal for public transportation, at work, or at home.

Wireless over-ear headphones can have a premium design and exceptional noise cancellation. They usually come with a stylish storage case.

Soundcore Life Q30

These earphones are an important upgrade over the Soundcore Life 2 of late-2018. They are more attractive, feel more durable, and have a more polished finish. They're still largely plastic but the hinges are tighter and the soft leather ear cups are larger. You can switch the 3.5mm cord for a high quality USB-C cable and make use of them with mobile Hi-Res as well as stationary players. They also come with dual mics built in that worked well during our tests with FaceTime, Skype and Microsoft Teams calls.

The Soundcore app comes with a broad selection of EQ presets that can be saved and altered to play podcasts and music in the style you like. The Soundcore app is simple to use and sets these headphones apart.

The Q30's 40mm speakers effectively block out nearly all ambient noise when ANC is turned on. This makes for an extremely pleasant listening experience. They have a natural sounding signature that leans slightly to the treble side, which some may feel is lacking in bass response (we got better results with the Bass Booster Equalizer preset). However, you can rectify this by using the Soundcore app, since there is an 8-band equalizer that can help you tweak.

The headphones feature an power button and a pairing button on the left ear cup and a USB-C port for charging. The right ear cup features play/pause and volume up/down buttons. Double-clicking these buttons lets you skip tracks or repeat the previous one. They also support an option to speak to them that allows you to ask them to change the mode or set an alarm. You can also cover the right ear cup with your fingers to activate ambient modes, so that you can hear the world around you without having to remove the headphones.

The battery life of these headphones is excellent and the battery life is also excellent. The Q30 was able to last for a full hour in our tests when ANC was switched on than its competitors. This leaves plenty of time for an extended flight or a day at the office. The USB-C cable included lets you quickly recharge the batteries. You'll also receive an alert when the battery is getting close to empty.

Focal Bathys Wireless

Focal's Bathys Wireless is a pair of high-quality over-ear Bluetooth headphones that offer active noise cancellation and Bluetooth playback. These headphones are designed to be high-end, premium headphones that can be used at home or on the go. The headphones are a higher priced than comparable headphones, but their superior audio quality is what makes them stand out.

The Focal Bathys are packaged in a small, attractive white box with a fabric finish. It contains everything you'll need. You can also get a fold-flat carry case for the headphones, a USB-C to USB C cable, 1.2mmSE cable and an audio converter.

They're powered by a good 600mAh battery that can get you through a whole day of listening, bluetooth Headphone and have an audio input for wired use. Wirelessly, they're paired via Bluetooth. You can control their functions with an app (now called Focal & Naim in keeping with English Naim's products that are network-aware) or the button on the left earcup which scrolls through ANC profiles such as'silent,'soft 'transparent,' and 'full.

Using the app allows you to change various settings such as the LED brightness and EQ presets, including a "music profile' that sounds brighter and more neutral than other presets and also their battery duration. It also lets you to select the ANC mode and its level as well as setting an 'acoustic environment' that will adjust the sensitivity of your audio to simulate what it will sound like when worn in a room with different audio acoustics.

The Focal Bathys have an incredibly bass-rich sound that adds more energy and warmth to your favourite tracks. The result is that vocals and instruments can be muted, and certain elements like cymbals could be less prominent than other headphones. The headphones are also less effective at active noise cancellation, compared to other headphones that feature higher-end technology, such as the Sony WH1000XM5 and Apple AirPods Max.

Sony WH-1000XM5

Sony has earned a reputable reputation for its headphones and the WH-1000XM5 headphones are no exception. It is the best of the mainstream over ear headphone market and borders the 'luxury' lifestyle area where brands like Apple, Montblanc, Bang & Olufsen and Montblanc are located. The XM5s are expensive however, if you are able to find them, there's not a better pair of wireless over-ear headphones.

The XM5s are loaded with features that make life easier for listeners and, in a few instances, automate tasks they'd otherwise have to deal with manually. Sony's DSEE Extreme Engine (which upscales music that has been compressed to near high-res) as well as bluetooth Headphone - https://parks-Christensen-2.federatedjournals.Com -'s LDAC Technology are both included. That allows for streaming of high-quality audio with bitrates higher than conventional Bluetooth. There's even a built-in microphone that can be used for making calls without hands.

Like the previous generation of WH headphones the XM5s excel in noise cancellation. They're one of the best at reducing the continuous drones that can be heard in subway and train carriages. The XM5s also excel in separating the listener from the noises of busy airports and streets.

The sound quality is very good. The XM5s may not be as detailed in the low frequencies as the XM4, however, there's a more pronounced sense of clarity and transparency, too. The bass in Rage Against the Machine's Bullet in the Head shows the Sonys' power and definition, without affecting the music. Similar to Massive Attack's brooding Angel shows off the XM5s ability to produce accurate and precise bass notes.

Battery life is great and can last up to 30 hours listening time when ANC is active and up to 40 hours when it's off. This is more than enough to last the weekend or a few days of heavy usage.

The only real drawback here is that the XM5s don't have any dust or water resistance protection. In fact, Sony recommends that you avoid sweating on them or take them out in the rain. This may not be a problem for some people, but it could prove a stumbling block for anyone who spends much of their time in the gym or lives in a rainy city.

Apple AirPods Max

The Apple AirPods Max are a pair of over-ear wireless headphone bluetooth headphones that come with Bluetooth technology and noise cancelling. Apple created dynamic drivers measuring 40mm with a neutral sound profile that focuses on highs and mids without going too loud. This makes them perfect for both music and movies. They also have better sound quality than many other headphones.

The headphones are light and comfortable on the head. The earcups, which are made of memory foam covered with woven fabric and fit comfortably over the ears they do not place pressure on the sides or the forehead. The ear cups can also be tilted and rotated to accommodate different head shapes. The spring-loaded hinges offer a firm, but not too much clamping force that ensures the ear cups stay in position during listening sessions.

imageToggle noise cancelling mode by pressing a small button located at the top of the right earcup. It also has a pushable jog dial-like button like the digital Crown on the Apple Watch. You can turn it to control the volume and press it once, twice, or three times to playback the controls. Pressing and holding the button will activate Siri.image
