Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

imageA robot vacuum is the best tool to maintain an orderly home. It can pick up pet hair, dust, and other debris on surfaces.

Some robots are able to sync with smart assistants such as Alexa or Google Assistant to provide a hands-free experience. Find models that are rechargeable and continue cleaning the area they left.

1. iRobot S8

This smart robot mop and vacuum is an excellent choice for many households. It can be used to vacuum and mop and has a great navigation system that includes both GPS and laser sensors and offers a broad range of features and 64guy.com controls that are accessible via the app. It also comes with a useful feature that lets you add Cleaning zones for certain areas that need extra attention, and also to keep Out zones that you don't want it to be. It also receives software updates, just like the other Roomba products, which improve the quality of the product over time.

It's costly, but it's is also one of the most sophisticated robot vacuums ZDNet has ever tested. It comes with a powerful battery that can vacuum a large area in less than two hours. It can switch between vacuuming and mopping with the press of one button. And unlike other self-emptying robotics that require you to empty the bin after each run, this one automatically emptys into the larger waste container that is above its charging dock.

It has a wide range of other features that make it a great choice for homes of all sizes with its intelligent obstacle avoidance that uses the camera as well as processor-powered intelligents to identify obstacles. It's rarely tripped up or stuck during a cleaning cycle. In my tests, it was the best at avoiding objects such as power cables. However, it isn't as reliable at detecting pet waste and other dangers.

2. Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8

Eufy owned by Anker, has become an established brand in the world of robots that are budget-friendly vacuums. But it didn't provide an option to mop. This is changing with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive suite of advanced features and can compete well against much more expensive models.

Laser navigation is the primary selling point of this machine. Previous Eufy devices have constructed an approximate map of your home using infrared sensors and bumping into objects, but the X8's laser mapping system is far more precise. It takes less time to build an accurate map of your home. It can also store multiple maps. This is perfect for multi-floored homes.

The X8 is still a good vacuum for floors that are not clean, slinging debris under its side brushes and into its 400ml dust bin with ease. Its tyres are adept at securing edges and corners, even though they are circular. Our tests showed that it was able to remove 90% of the fur on hard floors.

The basic mopping mode uses the same reservoir of water as the vacuuming mode. This is ideal for spills that are not too serious, but you can't limit the amount of water it uses. That said, it does an admirable job of removing pet hair, and has a higher speed of pickup than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Awarded for its quiet and efficient home appliances, Miele's RX2 robot vacuum has excellent cleaning power, beautiful design and great navigation. It has some oddities in its operation that keep it from being named the top robot vacuum smart robot vacuum.

Like iRobot's latest models and models, the RX2 has dual-sensor mapping which uses the LIDAR sensor to map an area and two 3D scanning cameras that can detect and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real time. Once the room has been identified, you can designate virtual no-go areas and favorite sections to the robot. You can also alter the cleaning options, begin an automatic clean or watch a live feed of the onboard cameras from the main screen.

The RX2's sensors work well in registering furniture and other obstructions in real-time. Its sweeping and suction power are top-notch and cleans up surface debris from carpets with medium piles and dust in bare floors. However, it's not the most agile robot on the market. As with many others it's not a great climber and is prone to problems with things like metal threshold transition strips.

Many people purchase a robot vacuum for the ease of setting a schedule on an app and forgetting about it for weeks at an time. But it's important that a machine can get the job done, which is the reason why our ZDNet staff looked over and tested a number of the most popular ones to help you choose the best one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This round, budget robot is just like a typical robot, but it's a step up in terms of performance and features. Its smart mapping system generates 3D and 2-D maps of your home and uses to navigate and stay clear of obstructions. It is able to detect common obstacles such as furniture legs and power cords in real-time. The combination of sensors with a bump detector and an infrared sensor that keeps the vacuum away from the stairs makes it one of our most agile vacuums.

It was able to walk over carpets with thick shags and didn't get stuck (unlike the RoboVac 11s, or Roomba 690-). Its navigation abilities were impressive as well as its score for composite tests on carpet and bare floors topped the competition. It picked up 98.5 percent of surface pet hair and litter from our laboratory test samples.

The controls are less basic than the competitors. There's a cleaning button on the top and you can choose to start it using the app or by voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also set a schedule for weekly or daily cleaning, set no-go zones, and see its history of cleaning. Ion is clad in a sophisticated dark gray plastic that is both attractive and appealing in your home. The dust bin on the rear is easily accessible for emptying, and taking out the filters is also a breeze.

5. Eufy 11S

Eufy 11S is a great choice if you want an automated vacuum cleaner that is simple and has no frills at a cost that is low. It isn't equipped with some of the advanced features, like digital mapping and Alexa integration, which are available in more expensive models, but if you don't need those functions you can save money by purchasing this model.

This robot is easy to set up and use. It does not require smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However, it does come with a remote control which lets you choose between different modes and adjust suction levels. You can also manually send the robotvac on a cleaning schedule.

During our tests, the 11S was extremely effective in cleaning pet hair and dirt on hard floors as well as in low-pile carpets. Its slim profile allowed it to reach under furniture and other low items that more bulkier robots couldn't reach. It was also able to get over thresholds for doors and move from one floor type to another.

The 11S, as with other robots, can also eat certain objects, like cords and cat toys. The manufacturer says that you can prevent this by keeping these objects off the floor and using the possibility of a cord organizer. It also recommends cleaning the dustbin regularly replacing the filters, and washing or changing the brushes as needed.

6. IRobot Roomba 990

The Roomba 980 is iRobot's flagship robot vacuum. It's expensive but it's the best robot vacuum for pets robot vacuum you can buy. Its self-navigation feature and environmental mapping is something to behold. It is more sophisticated in its automation than the majority of its competitors, including the capability to set up virtual boundary markers through its mobile application. It's a powerful robot vacuum, even if the application is a bit slow and the 980 spins out when it is pushed over cables.

We really like the 980 due to its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors and its visual simultaneity mapping and localisation (or vSLAM) to remember your home's floor plan.
